Wales’ National Test Facility
Creating a haven for marine energy
NOTICE TO MARINERS FOR META ACTIVITIES
Our Marine Energy Test Area (META) is the only pre-consented, pre-commercial test facility of its kind in Wales. A flagship Welsh project dedicated to reducing the time, cost and risks associated with deployment and commercialisation of marine energy technology.
Funded through the Swansea Bay City Deal and a keystone partner of the Pembroke Dock Marine Project, META offers testing in real sea conditions for wave, tidal and floating offshore wind (FLOW) technology in the Milford Haven Waterway, alongside world class port, engineering and manufacturing facilities.

META Test Sites
QUAYSIDE
We operate five quayside test sites, each providing an easy access, low risk area for testing marine energy equipment.
The sites are all accessible via existing port infrastructure, enabling you to monitor and evaluate performance tests easily, and retrieve equipment quickly.
The sites cover a range of water depths and utilise existing infrastructure. They can cater for various testing scenarios.
OPEN WATER
We operate three open water test sites, each providing accessible, non-grid connected, real- sea testing.
The sites are all located within or adjacent to the Milford Haven waterway, allowing you to test quickly and cheaply.
META provides a stepping stone from tank testing to commercial projects and supports ambitions for the UK to continue to be a global leader in marine renewable energy production.
